Is your fear of “new heights” immobilizing you?
I discovered a few years ago that as I’ve gotten older I’ve become terrified of heights.
One of the classes I had to take in my masters degree was on Stage & Lighting Design. Besides learning how to design light plots, which, for the non-techie, simply means drawing out where to place the lights, we also had to learn all the ins and outs of where the lights are hung, called “the grid”.
The “theatre lighting grid” is an OPEN floor of iron approximately two stories off the ground, and it looks exactly like it sounds, a big grid of metal that you walk on to hang lights, lift-lines, fly systems, or pulley systems for scenery. Each opening, called a well, is usually 6 to 8 inches wide, with strips of 3-inch pieces of iron running parallel to the wells.
From the stage it doesn’t look all that menancing. It looks like the subway grates that you walk over in New York City. [Read more →]

Stop Resisting What IS
“There is so much tension in resisting what’s happening (what IS) that we lose a lot of our power and our inner wisdom to move forward.” (Elizabeth Lesser)
Now that the snow is gone, the sun is shining, and it’s getting warmer outside, I’ve been thinking about my garden. That’s partly because spring is here, partly because I find great peace of mind by doing so.
Gardening is where I stop resisting “What IS”! [Read more →]

Why “doing it all wrong” can lead to success!
Are you a perfectionist?
Do you wait until you have all the knowledge, time, expertise, security before you take action?
I’ve finally admitted to myself that I might just be a perfectionist. It sounds like a dirty word when I say it like that.
It’s that voice inside of me that has said for two months…well, more likely that voice has been taking charge for a lot longer than this…
- I need just a little more information first.
- Add to that – I’ve got to know how to write “catchy” headlines, grab peoples attention, make sure I have something really worthwhile to say!
- What if I’m not able to ‘deliver the goods’?
- If I just (you fill in the bank) then I’ll do it.
- I don’t want to sound like a ‘boob’, so I’ll read more blogs about how to write great blogs. Then I’ll get really good at it and put another post out there.
- What if I “do it wrong”? “Badly”? Best to wait until I can “do it right, then”, eh?
- And my personal favorite, “you want to help people so ya gotta know what you’re doin’ there, girlie!”
Ummm…does this sound like it will get me anywhere? [Read more →]

What rituals do you have?
Happy Hogmanay and Epiphany!
Hogmanay is the Scottish word for New Year’s Eve. The Scots have a long rich heritage associated with this event.
“First footing” (that is, the “first foot” in the house after midnight) is still common in Scotland. To ensure good luck for the house, the first foot should be male, dark (believed to be a throwback to the Viking days when blond strangers arriving on your doorstep meant trouble) and should bring symbolic coal, shortbread, salt, black bun and whisky.
My grandfather used to leave the house and then come back in with a big box of chocolates. I wondered, as a child, where he was going all bundled up so late at night on New Year’s Eve. [Read more →]

Hello world!
Let’s try this again!
Two months ago, I started the process of getting this blog up and running.
I think I’ve walked through the tag line “Embrace, Empower, and Express” with every step of this process.
After learning how to ‘tweak code’, redesign the side-bars, and learned waaaay more than I ever thought I was going to need to about the back-end of the Dashboard, loading files, completely wiping out all of my hosting plans, re-installing them, the websites, and the blogs, oh the list goes on and on…..
Dare I say that the re-launch is (finally) ready to happen.
So for the second time since October, I say, “Hello World!” [Read more →]
